Glimpses of Marleycombe - The Empire of the Grasses
2016 - ongoing
Glimpses of Marleycombe explores the ancient landscape of Marleycombe Hill in the village of Bowerchalke, Wiltshire, where Alex lives and works. The work was originally inspired by daily walks on the hill, glimpsing the landscape through glass, a camera, a car window, a glass lens. Research into the history of the site led to the discovery of a writer, Majorie Pickthall, writer, who lived near Marleycombe from 1912 - 1920. Her poem, 'Quiet ' inspired experimental work in glass, digital print and thread funded by an artist's bursary from Gingko Projects.
