Artist Alex Hoare works with glass to create art installations and handcrafted objects with glass, light, sound and film projections. She also facilitates workshops and projects with cultural organisations, individuals and community groups.
She has 20 years experience working as an artist in a variety of creative disciplines, including kilnformed glass, scenography, art installation, performance, textiles and arts administration.
Her work is strongly influenced by her background in scenography observing how experience can be altered and enhanced when colour, light, objects and sound carefully curated together. Reoccuring themes in her work include creation of moments of contemplation and calm and observations on how glass alters and intervenes in our experience of the world: as a lense, a vessel/container, a carrier of data, a screen onto the world - creating a barrier and a window - ancient yet completely contemporary.
